The spirit of mentalization-informed systemic therapy (MIST) is pulling together concepts and practices that can be integrated into the current clinical practices of most therapists, almost regardless of orientation. MIST has the singular aim of supporting clients in identifying and overcoming barriers to mentalizing. The model holds an optimistic view of the mind, assuming that the recovery of mentalizing will ensure that solutions will be found—and through this view, obstacles and barriers will be overcome and a natural process of healing will occur.
